Check Admission Requirements
Requirements vary by program: IELTS/TOEFL, previous degree transcripts, and sometimes GRE/GMAT or a portfolio.
Apply via universityadmissions.se
Create an account on universityadmissions.se and apply to up to 8 programs per intake. Application fee: SEK 900 (non-refundable). Deadline: mid-January for Autumn intake.
Upload Documents
Upload transcripts, language certificates, and supporting documents to the portal by the deadline. Originals may be requested later.
Admission Results & Acceptance
Offers are released in April. Accept your offer by the deadline and confirm your place. Conditional offers require final transcripts.
Residence Permit
Apply for a Swedish Residence Permit online via Migrationsverket as soon as you receive your admission. Apply at least 2 months before your program starts. Fee: SEK 1,500.
Cost of Living in Sweden
Accommodation: SEK 4,000–8,000/month (student corridors or shared apartments). Food: SEK 2,500–4,000. Transport: SEK 500–900 (student SL card). Total: approx. SEK 8,000–13,000/month (~€700–€1,200).
Non-EU students pay tuition: SEK 80,000–180,000/year (~€7,000–€16,000). Fees vary by university and program. EU citizens study for free.
You must show SEK 8,568/month of available funds for your residence permit (for living costs). This can be a bank statement or scholarship letter.
Swedish Residence Permit (Student)
1. Admission letter from a Swedish university. 2. Proof of funds (SEK 8,568/month). 3. Valid passport. 4. Paid application fee. 5. Health insurance (if outside EU).
Processing can take 30–60 days. Apply early via the Migrationsverket online portal. You may be asked to submit biometrics at a Swedish embassy.
Graduates may extend their residence permit for 6 months to search for work. Those who find a job earning above the threshold (approx. SEK 26,400/month) can transition to a work permit.
Scholarships & Career
There is no formal limit on working hours for non-EU students with a Residence Permit in Sweden. Students commonly work 15–20 hours/week alongside studies.
